Community engagement work lies at the core of our philosophy of heritage led regeneration. As much as restoring buildings we see our work as restoring communities. Belfast has a unique identity and in seeking to protect the city’s historic character we look not only to its historic architecture but to its historic communities as major components of this identity.
A troubled past is giving way to a realisation that the city needs to utilise its built heritage. There is also growing recognition of the new communities who have made Belfast home and an awareness that heritage led regeneration can be a unifying process. BBPT works in a number of areas, through active and long-standing engagement, to preserve buildings and to help build vibrant and ambitious communities.

The Trust is recognised as one of the leading regeneration bodies in the UK and Ireland. We are a vigorous campaigner on all issues involving built heritage – listing, planning, and development – but we also believe that meaningful engagement with government and politicians can achieve important results.
